Embracing the New Normal
2021, has been a challenging year for many of us, for one reason or another. It has seen us dealing with all kinds of highs and lows, and has definitely been a bit of a rollercoaster, wouldn’t you agree?
As we rushed to get our vaccines, and became hopeful to see an end to the lockdowns brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, we finally (after what a year and a half?!) saw the world open up again.
Then come Christmas, there was a new variant in town, which brought additional worries… Would we face another lockdown, despite vaccinations? Would the vaccinations be effective?
We rushed to get our booster jabs to help against the new variant, and luckily this Christmas (unlike the last), Boris didn’t cancel.
Reflecting on a Tough Year & Becoming More Resilient
But even though we’ve all gone through that, many people have faced worse challenges, and tougher times. I’ve had couples who’ve have gone through a plethora of challenges, and come out the other side with positivity and smiles.
This pandemic has taught us how to be more resilient and how to embrace the people we love and not take them for granted.
Seeing weddings go from lockdown > restrictions > freedom in quite possibly the most mental wedding season ever, has been both a massive blessing, but also really challenging to deal with, when socialising was non existent for so long.
My mental health has needed more time to recover, but has also been more grateful than ever for having those experiences, and sharing in such powerfully emotional days.
A few Highlights for me Have Been:
- I got to page 1 on Google! Wahoo!
- I flew to France to second shoot a wedding! (In a time I didn’t think I’d be flying ANYWHERE for a while!) I even missed my flight home due to insufficient details on our pre-departure Covid tests!
- I went and exhibited at my first wedding show and got to meet such lovely couples and chat with them about their wedding days!
- I had 2 weddings featured, 1 on Hitched and 1 on Gay Wedding Blog!
- I completed a 6 week fitness challenge (although as expected, it all went downhill from there!)
- I made some new industry friends who I feel will be friends for life.
- I got to photograph some bloody awesome weddings!
