3 Reasons Why You Should Have Couples Photos at Your Wedding

by | May 29, 2019 | 0 comments

Couples photos on your wedding day are one of my favourite things to capture. And there’s more reasons than just to take pretty photos (though of course, we will). It’s not easy having your photograph taken all day, let alone have someone ask you to come away from your wedding party to take some more. And there are some photographers out there who are solely documentary wedding photographers and will only capture the day as it unfolds.

Me, I’m documentary style, which means for most of the day I capture it naturally, as it happens. But I also include couples photos in my weddings because I think they’re an integral part of the story! There are some really great reasons why it’s so worth having couples photos. I wanted to share with you why I think couples photos at your wedding are super important. And better yet, show you some of the results.

1. There’s Probably Only One Chance for Couples Photos at Your Wedding

Practically, this is probably the only time you’re going to get married (I hope!). You’ll be looking your absolute best. Hair and make up done, your best jewellery, a beautiful gown, gorgeous shoes. There’s often not many events where you’d go to so much trouble to look your absolute best. So reason one, is practical. Why not? You’re all glammed up already, why not make the most of it?

2. It adds Another Dimension to your Wedding Story and Captures Your RElationship and Connection

Your wedding story, your wedding album, will look amazing with some beautiful portraits of the two of you.  I’m perhaps a tad biased, but I do believe couples photos add another dimension to your wedding story. They are a beautiful addition to the wedding album, and bring in just another deeper element to your story. Giving you a chance to look back and see how in love you were on the day you married. To see the connection you have and share, and treasure that. It’s really something we can take for granted so easily. So reason two, essentially, is memories.

3. It Gives You Time Together on Your Wedding Day

Number three is the most important reason, because it’s the one you won’t realise is important. It gives you time together! On your wedding day, things happen pretty quickly. And a LOT happens in a short period of time. Getting ready, walking down the aisle, saying I do, signing the register, drinks reception, group photos, couple photos, your wedding breakfast, cake cutting, first dance, partying. And in between ALL of that, your guests will want to come and congratulate you, talk to you, wish you well and spend some time with your glammed up self!

So coming away with me for some couples photos, actually gives you and your new husband or wife a few minutes together! People comment on how it’s nice just to have a chance to soak in the person you love. And that’s the perfect time to capture your relationship and connection. Win win.

So that’s my top 3 reasons why I think couples photos on your wedding day are important, but don’t just take my word for it, check out some of my favourite couples moments from the shots below.
